If you've previously read this newsletter, you know that, when it comes to personal style, I am a classic minimalist who prefers timelessness over trendiness and quality over quantity. My wardrobe is filled with closet essentials like tank tops, blazers, flowy slacks, and good denim that I recycle and interchange endlessly into combinations that only appear new. (Yes, I am a great carry-on packer.)
But while I have no qualms about wearing the same denim maxi skirt or slip dress for a week straight, to keep things from looking boring, I round my apparel with unexpected accessories like a bright shoe (Sarah Flint's fuchsia pumps are my new favorite) or a fun bag (I have several Susan Alexandra purses). The latest addition to my fashion lineup: heart-shaped sunglasses.
While it's an accessory that's more commonly associated with bachelorettes—I'll admit: I bought my first pair in a pack of 20 from Amazon for my friend's festivities—and festival style, when done right, it's a look that can instantly make an outfit look more intentional. See: My December trip to Marrakech where my luggage was lost. I dressed up a pair of Zara pants (that I took turns sharing with my husband whose suitcase also never arrived!) and T-shirts that fell under the travel insurance's daily allowance and APL Zipline sneakers with a pair of my brand-new Saint Laurent Loulou sunglasses (middle photo). Most recently, I donned a pair of brown heart-shaped glasses from Foster Grant to likewise give a boost to my weekend errands look made up of a white tee and my go-to Keds (left photo).
But it's an accessory that can also complement a look in a more statement-making way. For example, when I wore the Saint Laurent pair with a patent leather trench in a matching red hue (the season's biggest color trend) to February's New York Fashion Week that fell over Valentine's Day for a sweet nod to the holiday (right photo).
If you're in need of a dopamine boost but not yet ready to decide which summer trends to invest in this season, may I suggest a mini style upgrade in the form of heart-shaped sunglasses? You'll love them.
